However, there is a workaround that will work to shut it off. Follow these steps: Start the Equinox and shift the gear to “ L .”. This puts the transmission into “ Manual Mode .”. Use the + and – buttons on the top of the gear shift to change the range of gears repeatedly until you are in L6. You can go up to “ 9 ” as you drive.
The easiest way not have the engine shut off is to use very light brake pressure when decelerating from 1-2 MPH to a stop. At the time of the stop if the brake pressure is too low, the ISG system will not engage. Another option is to add a control module that will remember and set both the ISG and auto-brake features.

Did mine too. Used a piece of 1/16” thick plastic. Worked like a charm. Probably took the government a few billion dollars of studies to make the car makers to add this start-stop thing and it is easily disabled with a little piece of plastic or a business card.
Open the hood and look down. Immediately to the right of the hood latch, there's an electrical connector. Unplug it. Someone else posted about this in a thread here stating that the SS system is disabled if the hood is unlatched. So, unplugging that connector makes the SS think the hood is always open and it won't activate.

Note: start car => auto stop-start was disabled. stop vehicle & start right away => auto stop-start will be enabled. That would look like the device doesn't function. This is not true. It is working. This is because the car / device needs to be shutdown for at least 20 sec, and then it will work on next start.
Permanently disabling it is easy. Open your hood. Look at the black terminal on your battery. There's a little wire connector. Pull the blue plastic tab out and pull the connector out. This will completely disable the idol stop and your engine will stay running. There will always be an alert on your dash panel that there is an idol start fault.
This model has the auto-stop/start feature for the engine when you come to a stop (at a red light, etc.) and I do not like this feature and would like to permanently disable it. However, the manual only states it can be disabled on a temporary basis by pushing a button on the dash each time the car is started.
